10th District Honor Guard
10th District Honor Guard
The day has arrived in many parts of U.S. in which the promise of final military honors at burial services is no longer met. With an eye to that future, Post 117’s Bill Black started a group to address this pending failure of the system to fulfill America’s obligation to it’s fallen warriors. Started in 1973 at Post 117, the 10th District Honor Guard has served our communities veteran’s with distinction and tenacity for over 35 years. It’s difficult to say how many funeral details this group has worked. The group doesn’t brag about or publish the extent of their activities over the last quarter century of service. They only recently started to help members with the cost of uniforms and equipment. The extraordinary Honor Guard of the 10th District continues the fine tradition of providing military honors at dozens of funerals across the bay area and beyond. The team now under the direction of Captain Ron Galvan has provided formal military services for over 50 funeral just since Jan. 09 . With an average age of 74 this dedicated group of veterans has traveled as far as Santa Nella, Gustine CA. for a single service only to be asked to stay and provide service at two other grave side services that afternoon. Their unique services have also been sought by families as far away as Seattle ,WA.. Please join me in applauding the efforts of these unsung Patriots.
